What is work appropriate at an art school?

June 29, 2011

Yesterday was my first day of work! I am in LOVE with my job. I’m working 8 hours/day in the admissions office as an assistant and tour guide, and it is so much fun. The thing that makes this office job more fun than lots of other office jobs is that I’m at an art school. Tons of kooky personalities to go around. I even working with my admissions representative for the school from when I was in high school, and its cool to get to see the behind-the-scenes work :)

So, I was a bit stuck with what to wear. While I love sheers and lace and everything delicate, I actually find those garments to be REALLY lame when you wear a tank top or camisole underneath. It reminds me too much of middle school and wearing henley tops with camisoles. I probably have to find the right top for underneath though. I just kind of hate camisoles on me in general. Back to the point, I decided a dress would be a good safety garment for my first day and I definitely loved it. You’ve seen me wear this dress here when I had just gotten it.

Above are detail shots of the buttons, which I’ve shown you before. I really like them :) Also, new boots from H&M. Probably won’t wear them again as they’re too small. I needed them for 90s night as school, hahaha. I’ll be selling them this weekend!

Dress: Thrifted
Boots: H&M
Purse: Forever 21

Anyway, I’ll show you guys more of what I’m wearing to work as well as what I’m wearing on my days off. Also, I think the blog might be due for a slight makeover reeeealllly soon. Look out for it!

You look so cute and – of course – artsy! I love the dress, and the shoes are such a fun little unexpected detail. It sounds like such a fun place to work, I’m glad you’re having a good time with it! Kooky art people rock.

Oh and I totally understand on the feelings about camis and such under sheers. I always feel like I have to wear something like that and it’s so irksome. I finally got a proper miniskirt to wear under my sheer maxi skirt to properly pull off that trend, but now I’m annoyed because the maxi (from Urban Outfitters) come just about to my ankles. Not much of a maxi! But we’ll see, I’ll try to make it work!

Kooky art people are always the greatest, haha. Thank you Casee :)

Ah! Yessss, the sheer maxi. I have the proper miniskirt and shorts for it now…I just don’t have it! At least you have one! Hahah. I’m sure you could make it work though. Ankles isn’t so bad! Still a maxi in my opinion! My pet peeve happens to be midis sold as maxis. Veryyy disappointing!

You look fabulous! I really like the larger buttons on the dress. It makes it a bit quirky which is fun! :)
