So with this illustration, I had a bit of a struggle. I started it digitally a few times before deciding that it needed to be done in pencil. From there, I started the drawing a few times again, and eventually went back to my first sketch (go figure). I scanned it and fixed it up, but didn’t know how I wanted to apply the color. I was going for a painterly approach at first, but the idea of color blocking became appealing. It was a huge experiment, but I do like its spontaneity.
This illustration is of Simonett Pereira, Co-Founder of Miami Style Mafia. She (alongside her partner, Eugy) is helping to shape the Miami fashion community via its bloggers–something I want to make sure my artistic career addresses. Naturally, I’m a huge supporter of these girls’ work and I’m looking forward to the future of Miami’s fashion blogging collective!
